You Have the Rest of Your Life to Figure Out the Consequences, but Right Now is Not the Right Time

The People's Printshop is honored to be releasing "You Have the Rest of Your Life to Figure Out the Consequences, but Right Now is Not the Right Time" from artist Edwin Ushiro, an 18" x 36" limited edition print of only 50 copies priced at $150.

"You Have the Rest of Your Life" was developed and painted over the course of 2 years and tells the story of The Green Lady of Wahiawa, a local folktale of the Wahiawa Valley on Oahu, Hawaii:

"The story of the green lady is that of a woman who would visit the gulch of Wahiawa with her children.  One day while visiting one of her children became lost and was never found. The story goes that she still wanders the gulch looking for her child, or children, and will take any child that she comes across in the gulch. There have been several reports of seeing a green woman covered in moss or mold wandering the gulch. The last known sighting was said to have happened in the mid to late 1980s. In modern times, children and teenagers dare each other to run across the bridge that runs over the gulch at night. Most speculators say that this story was made up to keep children from wandering into the gulch by themselves."

Edwin's work is deeply personal and "You Have the Rest of Your Life" is magnificently embedded with his own experiences from growing up in Hawaii.  Every person in his work is based on friends, family, classmates and others from his life and, as Edwin explains, "You Have the Rest of Your Life" "shows the bonding friends display when confronted in harmful situations."

The original painting is currently on view at "POW! WOW! The First Decade: From Hawai’i To The World" group exhibition curated by POW! WOW! and Thinkspace Projects at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The archival pigment, fine art print will be released on Thursday, May 20th at 1PM Pacific.
