Victor was inspired by the museum exhibition Outliers and American Vanguard Art that was at LACMA Los Angeles Museum County of Art at the time that he was creating the work. The painting is a breathtaking tribute to Folk Art and self taught outsider artists including Henry Darger.

The title in Spanish, "La Tierra de la Culebra" (Land of the Snake), was inspired by a local park close to his studio in Highland Park, Los Angeles, a historically Chicano Latino neighborhood.

The painting may be about innocence facing of danger, as much as it is about making peace with and living with our monsters. The original painting was first shown in Paris, France in 2019; it traveled to the LA Art Show this summer, and is currently being exhibited in Chile with Isabel Croxatto Galería.
